Commercial License Agreement

Overview

Chameleon (R) is dual-licensed under AGPL-3.0 and Chameleon Commercial License.

  • AGPL-3.0 (Open Source): Suitable for open-source projects, internal tools, and scenarios where you are comfortable open-sourcing your modifications.
  • Chameleon Commercial License: Required when you do not wish to open-source your derivative work, or when you need commercial support and enterprise features.

For details about the AGPL-3.0 license, please refer to the LICENSE file in the repository.

Chameleon Commercial License

When Do You Need a Commercial License?

You need a Chameleon Commercial License if:

  1. You do not want to open-source your application — You are building a proprietary / closed-source product using Chameleon and do not wish to release your source code under AGPL-3.0.
  2. You are offering Chameleon as a SaaS service — And you do not want to disclose the source code of your service to your users (AGPL-3.0 requires network source availability).
  3. You need enterprise-grade support — Including dedicated technical support, SLA guarantees, priority bug fixes, and professional consulting services.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I use Chameleon for free?

Yes. If your project complies with the AGPL-3.0 license terms, you can use Chameleon completely free of charge. This includes:

  • Open-source projects released under a compatible license
  • Internal tools and applications within your organization
  • Projects where you are willing to open-source your modifications

Q: What happens if I use Chameleon under AGPL-3.0 in a SaaS product?

Under AGPL-3.0, if you offer Chameleon (or a modified version of it) as a network service (SaaS), you must make the complete corresponding source code available to your users upon request. This is the key difference between AGPL-3.0 and GPL-3.0 — the network use provision.

If this is not acceptable for your business, you should purchase a Commercial License.

Q: Can I switch from AGPL-3.0 to a Commercial License later?

Yes. You can purchase a Commercial License at any time. Once purchased, the Commercial License terms will replace your AGPL-3.0 obligations going forward.

Q: Who owns the intellectual property of Chameleon?

All intellectual property rights of Chameleon belong to Camaleon Co., Ltd. The AGPL-3.0 license grants you the right to use, modify, and distribute the software under its terms, but it does not transfer ownership of the original codebase.
